Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) are two ways you can gain credit for your previous study or work experience when enrolling in our Nationally Recognised Training.

Credit Transfer (CT)

Credit transfer is recognition of a completed a unit of competency from previous study attained from another Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

If you have completed a unit of competency that is deemed equivalent to one of the units included in our qualification, you may be eligible for a credit transfer.

To receive a credit transfer, students are required to provide evidence of completed unit (s), such as a statement of attainment or transcript. When credit is recognised, you don’t need to repeat training or assessment for that unit.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the competencies of an individual that may have been acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning.

Evidence can take many forms, such as information about approved study, information about work experience, certificates, transcripts or other credentials.

To obtain RPL you need to collate and submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates you already possess the skills and knowledge specified in the Units of Competency.

Any participant who believes they possess the required knowledge and skills are encouraged to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.  The following factors may help you in deciding whether an application will be successful.

  1. Can you demonstrate the required knowledge and skills?
  2. Are your knowledge and skills current?
  3. Can you provide evidence of your knowledge and skills.

Tips and hints to help you prepare for your RPL2024-03-01T13:04:56+11:00

Assessment happens in a variety of ways. Being prepared can save you valuable time and make the process easier for you.

Be prepared to talk about your job roles and your work history. Have a resume or jot down a few points about where you have worked, either paid or unpaid, and what you did there.

Provide your position description and any performance appraisals you have that show your contribution to training and assessment in your workplace.

Think about who can confirm your skill level. Think about current or recent supervisors who have seen you work within the past 2 years and who will be able to confirm your skills. You may want to collect evidence from them to provide to your assessor. You may also have community contacts or even clients themselves who can also similarly vouch for your skill level.

Collect work samples that show the quality of your work as an adviser or broker and send them to FEP. Normally, variety is more valuable than supplying multiples of the same type of work samples.

Provide any certificates or statements from in-house training or formal training you have done in the past.
