Our online Tier 1 Generic Knowledge course provides valuable foundation knowledge for financial services professionals, no matter what area of the industry they are working in.

Learn the economic environment, operation of financial markets and types of financial products.

Tier 1 Generic Knowledge has been updated to include coverage of digital assets (previously termed crypto assets) where they meet the definition of regulated financial products under existing law, as outlined by ASIC in INFO 225. Licensees or representatives providing digital asset-related products and services may wish to study the course in order to meet initial or ongoing organisational competence and continuing training requirements under RG104 and RG146.

Duration: Up to 16 weeks (experienced professionals may finish sooner)
Study time: 10–20 hours per Tier 1 knowledge area
Assessment: Online, open-book, unsupervised. Short MCQs after each topic + 3 exam attempts included
CPD: 20 CPD hours (on successful completion)

That would depend on your role and what financial products you provide advice in. You must be accredited to provide advice in all knowledge areas you intend to advise on. Consult your licensee if you are unsure or would like to discuss with them your desire to advise on additional knowledge areas. Authorisation is the responsibility of your Australian Financial Services Licensee.
We offer an online, modular approach, allowing you to study and complete one RG146 Tier 1 specialist knowledge area at a time. Our Tier 1 RG146 compliance programs:
  • Delivery: are online – self paced
  • Study time: depends on your current knowledge and experience however we estimate 10-20 hours of study.
  • Duration: up to 16 weeks - however experienced professionals can complete in less time.
To assist AFS Licensees, we follow the syllabus prescribed by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) for each Tier 1 and Tier 2 specialist knowledge area. To meet relevant training standards at the Tier 1 level, you must complete both Generic Knowledge and the specialist knowledge area you intend to provide general advice in. To provide general advice you must be authorised under an AFSL.
  • For each RG146 Tier 1 specialist knowledge area; there is one knowledge exam (multiple-choice questions) per topic. Each exam is based on the subject materials in the given topic.
  • Assessment is online, open-book and does not need to be supervised
  • If you are unsuccessful, you may repeat the assessment (3) attempts
