LMI Essentials

Understanding LMI as a strategy for high LVR lending

Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) plays a critical role in Australia’s home lending landscape, particularly for borrowers with smaller deposits. While often misunderstood, LMI is a key mechanism that enables lenders to support higher loan-to-value ratio (LVR) lending while managing risk.

In today’s environment of rising property prices and affordability pressures, LMI is increasingly relevant. It can help eligible borrowers enter the property market sooner, rather than waiting years to save a full 20% deposit.
