23 August 2022 - ASIC shares its view on the road ahead
ASIC Chair, Joe Longo, has outlined key domestic and overseas trends that have shaped the regulator’s priorities for the coming year.
In his speech to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), he outlined ASIC’s four external strategic priorities:
- product design and distribution
- sustainable finance
- retirement decision making, with a focus on superannuation products, managed investments and financial advice, and
- technology risks, with a focus on digitally enabled misconduct.
He also gave further detail about four of ASIC’s eight core strategic projects, each which he said were important for securing the financial system and protecting its participants. A notable inclusion was addressing market integrity issues and investor harms in relation to crypto-assets (or cryptocurrency).
Longo’s appearance at the event coincided with ASIC’s release of its Corporate Plan for 2022-26.
